In June 2024, a generous planned giving donor in Stockton, California left his estate to the ALS Association. While going through his property, Probate Court representatives discovered a collection of 55 rare and handmade instruments, mostly guitars, that were in excellent condition. Acting quickly with the help of the San Joaquin County Public Administrators office, that team removed the instruments from the upcoming estate sale and safely stored them until a decision on what to do with the collection was made.
With the collaboration of ALS Association leadership and multiple departments, a team was built to responsibly manage this once-in-a-lifetime gift. With an upcoming fundraising gala for the ALS Association slated for Nashville, Tennessee, a volunteer committee comprised of rare instrument industry professionals determined that the instruments greatest value would be realized by engaging volunteers in Nashville. A connection was then made between the ALS Association and Carter Vintage, and a partnership was formed.
With over 51 instruments ranging from rare acoustic and electric guitars to violins, The Tucker Collection is now available through Carter Vintage Guitars! Every purchase made in this collection will be donated back to the ALS Association and will help make a difference in the lives of those in our community who are on their ALS journey.
ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Sometimes referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, ALS eventually leads to the death of nerve cells along with the loss of the ability to initiate and control muscle movement. As the disease progresses, people with ALS lose the ability to walk, talk, eat, and eventually breathe. It is always fatal, with an average life expectancy of two to five years after diagnosis. There is no cure.
The ALS Association is the world’s leading ALS organization, made up of volunteers who are living with ALS, loved ones, caregivers, advocates, and dedicated staff. They lead the way in global ALS research, enhancing quality of life and encouraging hope while aggressively pursuing new treatments and cures.
Carter Vintage Guitars is a proud sponsor of the upcoming ALS event – An Evening of Hope: Nashville VIP Music Experience Gala on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at the Hutton Hotel.
